Working out of a cafe instead of at home has been so, so, so great. I’ve been way more productive and even made a friend who came up and talked to me about coding once she saw my setup at the cafe.
My experiment with engaging with the people who asked for the Facebook member request Zapier trigger was not as exciting as I’d hoped. I thought if people were motivated enough to search for a solution and post on the forum asking for an integration, they’d be tripping over themselves to use something that works. I posted a reply on that forum post that included a link to a video demo I recorded but it never got approved by the moderators. I wouldn’t be surprised if they thought Browserflow was a Zapier competitor, even though I see it more of as a supplemental tool to fill in the gaps that Zapier doesn’t support.
So I sent direct messages to people who posted in the forums, and out of the 8 or so people that I messaged, only one of them replied to tell me that she was actually evaluating solutions for a potential client so it’s not something she needs right now. The fact that no one else replied either means that (1) they didn’t see the message or (2) the problem isn’t important enough to them to merit talking to some random person offering a solution.
Anyway, I haven’t given up hope on positioning Browserflow as the automation tool that handles everything without an API, but it looks like I’ll have to try new ways of finding potential customers on that front.
Speaking of customers, deciding to only book a ticket to Korea once I have a paying customer is turning out to be pretty helpful. I’ve noticing my thought patterns shifting to think of ideas to get customers rather than just build random stuff no one asked for (although I’m still doing that, too). For example, instead of thinking of just sending an update to the waiting list, I’m planning to set up a launch sale for the extension so that when I send the update, I can also generate interest in purchasing Browserflow.
lil highlight of the week: my friend alex, who’s a super talented developer, tried out browserflow and loved it. again, getting appreciation from dev friends is esp satisfying because they understand the challenges in building something like browserflow
Week 82 Plan
The focus of this week is going to be to get all the pieces into place to run a launch sale for Browserflow and then send an update to everyone on the waiting list. A stretch goal will be to launch on HN — if I don’t do it this week, then it will happen next week.
I’m also going to Vegas to hang out with Ben, Mai, Marco, and the Red Door crew so that’ll hopefully be fun and productive at the same time!
