Day 150: Rebuilding Habits
One of the reasons why I often compare the way I get sucked into working to playing an addictive video game is it becomes all-consuming. For the past week, I’ve done nothing but think and work on this new project of mine (which I’m looking forward to unveiling so that I can just call it by its name rather than as the ~mysterious new project~).
When I let this obsession reign freely, all my other habits disappear. I’d like to get back to practicing those habits again, so I’m going to enumerate the ones that I care most about as a way to remind myself to work on them.
Sleep
Target: Sleep from 10pm to 6am
Current: Sleep from 3am to 11am
Nutrition
Target: Eat proper meals; don’t eat at night
Current: Snack throughout the day; go on a binge after midnight (when my self-control is lowest!)
Exercise
Target: Work out on Mon, Wed, Fri; yoga on Tue, Thu, Sat
Current: Work out around twice a week, but it’s been half-assed; no yoga
Meditation
Target: 30 - 60 minutes a day right after waking up
Current: 20 minutes a day but in the last few days, nothing
Writing
Target: Write R2R post in the morning before starting work
Current: Write R2R at the very end of the day (past midnight), when I’m exhausted, don’t want to write, and find it difficult to get any words out
As much as I enjoy going into a coding frenzy and working on a greenfield project, I have to remember that it’s not worth losing the fundamental pillars that keeps things sustainable.
