Day 62: Hide Feed Launch Results

I launched Hide Feed on Product Hunt two days ago, and I guessed that with it being in 11th/10th place for the day, that Hide Feed got ~1000 visitors and ~100 installs.

Actual results:

  • 310 visitors
  • Installs: 64
  • Uninstalls: 13

Much lower than I expected. Man, getting people to check out your stuff is pretty hard. I’m also surprised that the uninstall rate is so high. I’m assuming that these are people who installed the extension and then uninstalled it on the same day as opposed to people who installed it on previous days. Having such a high uninstall rate is concerning, and I’d like to understand why. This might be the trigger that gets me to add analytics so I can understand where people drop off — I don’t know whether they start using it and then decide that it’s not for them or whether they’re getting stuck somewhere in the onboarding flow. I’ll have to think about how I want to integrate analytics because I want to be very conservative and careful about how I introduce it.

In terms of marketing, I need to come up with a plan to get the word out about Hide Feed. Right now, I’m thinking of posting again on HN, identifying appropriate subreddits and posting there, and perhaps contacting tech journalists about Hide Feed.

Marketing is definitely my weakest point in the full product release cycle, and it’s something I’d like to learn more about — if you have recommendations, please let me know!
