Day 512: Browserflow Advice
During dinner, Chris asked me what my goal was for MRR by the end of the month. I didn’t have one so he decided $1000 MRR for me which sounds as good as any other number. Let’s do it! And by let’s, I guess that means me!
Ivan and I talked today about bootstrapping vs. getting VC funding as well as go-to-market strategies for Browserflow. Some notes from our conversation:
-
I need to decide who my target customer is
- Is it builders / developers? If so, the product can just be the platform that developers build services on top of. (example: Scraper API)
- Is it end users? If so, I need to make it clear what the problems being solved are.
- The difference here would be that if I target developers, I can say that Browserflow can be used for “web scraping” and that’d be good enough; if I target end users, I’d need to go further and explain what the benefit for the user would be — e.g. “monitor your competitors’ prices”, “generate leads” instead of merely “web scraping”
-
Horizontal products (like Browserflow) that serve a variety of use cases are difficult to market
- I need to spell out who can be served by Browserflow and what it can do for them
- The way to get there is by coming up with a gallery of templates/pre-built flows that people can use to solve their problems and developing case studies around businesses that have successfully used Browserflow
- Examples of successful horizontal products to study: Airtable, Zapier
