Week 67

      • PSA: Use FreeTaxUsa.com instead of TurboTax because (1) it’s actually free and (2) they don’t lobby the government to make it harder to file taxes like scumbag Intuit

I thought about building all the plans and pricing stuff and then I asked myself: “Do I really need this right now?”

And the answer was no.

I also thought about changing the way I sync flows to and from Firebase because right now it sync everything all the time which is great for user experience but would become expensive if I were to get a lot of users. And then I asked myself: “Do I really need this right now?”

Again, no.

I’m trying to shift into the mindset where I only work on things that are absolutely necessary and then punt on everything else.

Week 68

So what is necessary?

Onboarding.

I need to make it as easy as possible for people to use Browserflow after they’ve installed it. That means instead of showing a blank editor or taking them to a tutorial, I want to show a gallery where they can start importing and running flows as soon as possible.

When I thought about implementing that, I started thinking about whether to expose any shared flows or only featured/curated ones. Showing all shared flows would make the gallery a lot bigger, but I wouldn’t be able to guarantee the quality of the ones there / make sure that someone’s first flow actually works. And there’s also the trust issue where I should list information about the author. And if I do that, I should provide user profile pages and let them create usernames and… yeah. Another rabbit hole to fall into.

Going to keep this simple and just manually curate stuff for now.
