Day 432: moments of doubt

sometimes, on nights like tonight, i wonder if browserflow has a future

i’m extremely proud of it as a product and it’s by far my finest engineering achievement

but can it be a business?

is this valuable enough that a non-trivial number of people would pay for it?

not sure.

i’ll certainly try my best to make it work and i’ve yet to put serious effort into trying to get this into the hands of people who’d benefit from it, but it’s certainly seems possible that this might not be able to graduate from “cool project” to “working business”

which would be fine — i have the privilege of not being in a rush and i’ve enjoyed my time working on browserflow, but a part of me would still be bummed out

funnily enough, this doubt is coming in the midst of a lot of positive attention and feedback on browserflow (friend is using it to automate something for her startup, a vc reached out to learn more about it, another friend has been using it for his job and we’re investigating whether we can get his team set up on it)

but the question remains: what would happen if browserflow disappeared tomorrow?

i don’t think anyone would be incredibly distraught

hell, i use browserflow on a daily basis but losing it would be more of an inconvenience rather than a disaster

to be fair, this is true of many products that still manage to be successful businesses

but i’d know that i’m really onto something if people felt that browserflow is something they’d be very, very disappointed to lose. and it’s not quite there yet

i think browserflow cloud would actually get it there, but do i want to venture down that road? i’d definitely do it differently in that i’d try to validate this upfront before going deep into engineering

or maybe i’d work on other projects? i’ve been all browserflow all the time for quite a while now and it’d be nice to build stuff for fun
