Day 393: this, too

there’s a spiritual teacher named adyashanti whose talks i enjoy listening to while walking around outside

in one talk i listened to recently, he describes spiritual practice and meditation in the following ways:

  • spiritual practice is consciously engaging with every aspect of life
  • meditation is the art of being completely engaged in the immediate experience of being

these days, things feel somewhat difficult. my energy levels feel low and there’s a sense of being ungrounded and things feeling hazy. a general sense of unease lingers in everything from work to my relationships. i feel tired.

maybe it’s because i’m not sleeping well, maybe it’s because of the recent breakup, maybe it’s because i’m not eating a balanced diet, maybe i’m not good with colder / gloomy weather, maybe it’s none of the above; maybe it’s all of them. who knows.

one of the practices i learned on a meditation retreat at spirit rock is looking at what’s presently happening and accept it with a humble, “this, too.”

this is what’s arising in this present moment. it may be difficult, but it is what’s here.

this, too, is my practice.
