Day 290: Random Slump

Two days ago, I felt allergies for the first time in a loooong time and spent all day alternating between sneezing and trying to work before giving up because of the heavy brain fog. Yesterday, I wasn’t sneezing anymore, but I couldn’t muster up any energy to work. I just took naps throughout the day, got to my computer with a thought of what I’d want to work before giving up after a minute when my focus wouldn’t stick.

Today was more of the same. I eked out an hour and a half of work, but the rest of the day…. what happened? I don’t really know.

When these sorts of crashes happen, I’m not sure what the best way to deal with them is. It’s a humbling reminder of just how much of my ability to work is dependent on factors outside of my control. (In reality, everything, and yes, everything, is outside of our control.) For unknown reasons, my motivation, discipline, excitement, focus can all evaporate and leave me wondering where they went.

In periods if inspiration, it’s unfathomable how I could manage to articulate what I need to do and then spend months not making any progress toward it. And in these periods, it becomes obvious exactly how that could occur.

Accept and continue. Accept and continue.
