Day 260: small things

i met up with a friend from high school today, and he told me a story of how during school, i had once borrowed his calculator and a cable. but when i returned them, the cable didn’t work anymore. i was fully prepared to apologize for having been a dishonest twat, but he went on to explain that i had given him a $20 bill when returning the broken cable. that was when he decided that i was a good guy.

i have no recollection of this incident, which is not surprising given that i have a hard hard enough time recollecting events from last week, much less 10 years ago. i was glad (surprised, really) that i had done the right thing, and this was a nice reminder of the importance of integrity. not only is it a more fulfilling way to live, but people remember — even the small things.
