Day 251: Boats

We notice it while carrying Kevin’s kayak out to the water. Big Trump 2020 flags flutter from many of the boats. “I told you there are a lot of Trump supporters here,” Kevin says.

After taking turns on the kayak, Lucas and I watch Kevin fish and the activity out on the water. “There are only two types of people here,” Kevin explains. “People who don’t care at all, and people who care way too much. Some people really want you to know that they’re on a boat.”

I wave at a small pontoon packed full of people. A bunch of them wave back. “Aw, that’s nice,” I say. A woman yells something, but I don’t catch it. I ask Lucas if he heard her. “She said, ‘Work really hard and you can have a boat, too!’”

We almost cry laughing.
