Day 751: breaking down

so this happened yesterday:

the interesting bit happens at 0:16, when i can no longer support the hold and my knees collapse. my head boops the wall due to the loss of balance and then

SEARING PAIN

i’ve only been training the planche for about 3 weeks, and i already have a forearm splint.

slowing down

the forearm splint is like a shin splint and results from overusing the joints, tendons, and other connective tissues. less than 10 workouts in, i’ve already managed to push myself too hard 😬

the prime directive for making progress across all of my different fitness goals is to AVOID INJURY because that’s how you end up not being able to work out and make progress for weeks and months

it’s a bit too late to avoid injury at this point, but i can avoid making it worse. so as much as i hate to do it, i’m going to stop all planche work for the rest of the week and focus on developing a solid prehab routine to prevent these kinds of injuries in the future given how much i’m relying on my wrists and forearms (climbing, handstands, planche). i’m hoping that a week of rest will be sufficient, but we’ll see how it feels next week

general condition

i’ve been feeling brittle and weak these days. the beast i met at the gym the other day told me that as you get leaner, you start to feel like glass and it feels like you might get injured at any moment, but that you don’t need to worry about it when it feels that way. the funny part is that i’m not even at that level of leanness and i’m already dealing with my first injury (yet another reason to think that this guy is just a straight up anomaly)

starting this cut and increasing my training volume at the same time might have been asking a bit too much from my body because it’s busy trying to repair itself while also not having enough nutrients to do it at an optimal level. which raises the question: if it came down to it, which do i value more? getting to 10% body fat or developing these skills?

the skills. looking shredded is cool, but being able to do a handstand/planche/lever/muscle-up is way cooler.

my plan for now is to continue with the cut and see how my training goes next week. if i continue to get injured easily, i might end the deficit and start eating more to give my body more fuel to work with.

p.s. i’m also starting to feel some tenderness in my elbow and i’m really, really hoping it’s not tendonitis because that would mean gg for everything. i ordered a rice bucket + a massage ball + rubber bands for wrist/forearm conditioning so here’s to hoping i can avoid wrecking myself

lmao at road to ramen starting out as an indie maker log and turning into a fitness blog. i guess it could take on a new meaning where if i hit all of these fitness goals, i can reward myself with a delicious bowl of ramen as a cheat meal

ok i actually do want to keep this primarily indie maker focused so hopefully it’ll become more evenly balanced between fitness and business stuff as time goes on

but this is basically just my raw daily journal at this point so who knows
