Day 501: marketing mode
okay, now that browserflow is ridiculously feature complete and i have payments set up, it really is time to switch into marketing mode 100%
as in, it’s time to build compelling flows to answer people’s question of “but what would i use this for?”
there are an infinite number of niches i can target, and i want to start with one that people are willing to pay for. doing things like unfollowing everyone on social media stuff is great for personal use, but it’s not something people will pay $29/month or more for
within the browser automation space, there are a few established use cases that provide clear business value:
-
automated testing
- e.g. testim, browserstack, reflect
-
growth automation
- e.g. phantombuster, texau
-
web scraping
- e.g. scraperapi, scrapingbee, octoparse
given browserflow’s flexibility, it can serve any of these use cases, but i think it’ll be important to focus on one to start with to make it easier to communicate what you can use browserflow for
currently leaning towards starting by showcasing browserflow’s web scraping capabilities. growth automation is a good candidate as well and is likely more compelling as a business, but there’s a certain ick factor to it that i need to think through. if i think of it as helping people reach potentially interested customers then it sounds alright, but there’s still some discomfort around it for me
but maybe working on growth automation would be useful because i can use that for browserflow’s outbound sales process?
e.g. i can create flows for sourcing leads on linkedin and then publish the flows i use and write case studies to demonstrate how browserflow helps with outreach and marketing. very meta but i think it’d work
and now that i think of it, the people who have been the most excited to use browserflow have been the ones who have wanted to use it for growth marketing purposes
ok i need to think through this more to see whether my discomfort with this use case makes sense (and thus i shouldn’t rationalize it away just because there would be people willing to pay) or whether i’m being silly
would i feel okay with someone automating following or messaging people on linkedin/twitter/instagram/etc?
sure. i feel like if they’re doing it poorly, it wouldn’t work anyway. i don’t have anything against automated outreach itself if it’s done in a thoughtful way. hm, warming up to this but at the same time, it still feels icky?
