Day 467: Questions

Some questions that came up during a lil heart-to-heart with Shiva tonight that I’d like to explore more:

  • Motivation

    • Why do I work so hard on Browserflow?

      • Sometimes it feels like I’m playing a really interesting game and every part I build is like solving a puzzle.
    • How much of my work ethic stems from the same energy of being hooked on a game?

      • Honestly, it feels like a lot of it, especially when I enter periods where I have trouble falling asleep because I want to continue working on Browserflow.
    • Is this a game I want to be playing?

      • Yes, but there’s a “but” there in my mind and I’m not quite sure why. I think it has to do with the hyper intense single-minded focus I’ve had with Browserflow which leads me to drop other things I care about.
    • What is the end goal here for me?

      • I’ve been saying that I’d like to have a financially sustainable business that can fund my life and various projects I’d like to pursue. I don’t really have a number in mind though in terms of monthly revenue or anything concrete like that.
  • Working solo

    • Do I want to continue working solo on this project vs. bringing on co-founders or investors?

      • I think I’d like to build a team around Browserflow, but I don’t know whether that’d take the form of just hiring employees or finding more of a partner.
    • How much of my decision to work solo stems from fear of trusting or depending deeply on others?

      • Fear around losing independence or having to compromise on my values feels like it’s played a part of my M.O. for having worked on a lot of things solo, including Browserflow. I value independence very highly, but it might be coming at a cost of limiting the opportunities I pursue.
    • Suppose that I go the venture-backed route and try to grow Browserflow as much as possible. Why would I want to do that?

      • I guess there’s potential for a more lucrative exit? But (1) I feel like you actually have a higher chance of success building a bootstrapped business rather than trying to sustain hypergrowth and (2) money is nice but it’s not a super strong motivator for me.
    • What are my blind spots?

      • Obviously, I don’t know or else they wouldn’t be blind spots.
