Day 441: Week 64 Plans

Week 63

The big thing that happened this week was getting on the front page of Hacker News with my post about having Intention removed from the Chrome Web Store. From that, I got a bunch of signups for the Browserflow beta and I reached out to several people with interesting, business-related use cases. (Prioritizing those applications for now.) In the past week, I had 6 people pay $20 to join the Browserflow private beta, but there hasn’t been much feedback from them. Need to dig into the cause — is the onboarding too confusing? Have they just not had the time to look into it so far? etc.

Goals

  • Foundation

    • ❌ Go to sleep before 11pm at least 3 times

      • oops i’m getting back into the habit of staying up late
  • Browserflow

    • ✅ Finish redesigning landing page

      • Really proud of the result! It’s the best-looking landing page of the ones I’ve made for my apps (e.g. Intention, Hide Feed)
      • Still need to add: Gallery for showcasing real use cases, testimonials
    • ✅ Record demo for landing page

      • I’d like to replace the demo + examples on the page with more business-oriented use cases rather than the social media ones, but I’m happy I was able to whip something up
    • ❌ Ask people for testimonials

      • Decided to wait until I’ve decided on a specific, compelling business use case / niche to focus on
    • ❌ Take in second batch of beta users

      • Decided to wait until I’ve decided on a specific, compelling business use case / niche to focus on
    • ❌ Send messages to 10 customer support / operations people on LinkedIn asking if they’d be interested in trying Browserflow

      • Decided to wait until I’ve decided on a specific, compelling business use case / niche to focus on

Week 64

These past few days, I’ve felt my motivation waning a bit and things have felt a bit stale, so I’m going to take a week off from normal Browserflow work and let myself do some exploratory coding — specifically, trying to get an MVP of Browserflow Cloud up and running.

It’s funny that working on Browserflow Cloud is my way of taking a break, but it’s a reflection of how building stuff feels like play to me whereas thinking through questions like “what’s the next step in order to make this into a business” feels more like work.

Goals

  • Foundation

    • Go to sleep before 12am at least 3 times

      • Let’s start with midnight to make it easier
  • Browserflow

    • Support basic web scraping with Get Element Text in the cloud
    • Support web scraping with Loop Elements in the cloud
    • Support scheduling scraping runs
    • Support accessing data either via API or via Google Sheet (TBD)
