Day 415: writing more good
stumbled upon ava’s substack today and was blown away the quality of her writing. the ideas, her expression of those ideas, the seamless way she connects them together — you find yourself reading thousands of words on topics you had no prior interest in simply because the delivery is that good.
goals.
things i’d like to learn to do better in my own writing:
- share other people’s works, thoughts, stories
- guide the reader on a journey rather than vomit my thoughts all over them
how to get there:
-
read (a heck of a lot) more
- the people whose writing i admire the most are always, without fail, avid readers. in ava’s case, she’s been reading ~100 books a year since she was in elementary school
- how do i read faster b/c i am a book snail
-
remember who said what
- my brain does not hold onto this kind of information naturally so i will need to lrn 2 take better notes cool cool
- but then taking notes while reading makes reading feel like “work” and also takes forever so i eventually stop taking notes or more often, reading
- ok maybe focus on the reading bit to start and focus on retention later
