Day 403: ceo vs. coder
inspired by alice’s post on her different selves
the cast:
- ceo dk: wants to make money from products like browserflow for financial independence and be able to work on whatever he wants
- coder dk: wants to build cool stuff because it’s fun
ceo dk**:** yo what are you doing
coder dk: listen, i can explain
ceo: i thought we weren’t going to code unless it’s absolutely necessary
coder: yeah, but—
ceo: dude, no. you’ve been hermit coding for 9 months now. we have to start SELLING
coder: but do we really? as long as we’re having fun, what’s the rush?
ceo: how do you even know what you’ve built is useful?
coder: just take a look. this is clearly waaaaay better than any other no-code/low-code solution out there and much easier than writing a puppeteer/playwright/selenium script.
ceo: but what are people going to use it for?
coder: anything! it’s robust enough to automate any workflow on any site you throw at it
ceo: why would anyone pay for this?
coder: because they can automate whatever they want
ceo: but what problem does it solve?
coder: that’s up to them. the best part is that because it’s flexible, they can use it for whatever they’d like
ceo: sigh
coder: what?
ceo: people don’t pay for cool technology. they pay for solutions to their problems.
coder: yeah, but if i design the product in a way where they can solve any problem they run into, then—
ceo: you’re thinking like an engineer. you’re trying to create a scalable, robust solution for problems that you don’t even know exist. you’ve built a hammer assuming that there are a bunch of nails out there.
coder: it’s a really good hammer tho. also i am an engineer
ceo: we need to start solving real problems that people are willing to pay for instead of building features for hypothetical needs
coder: but that sounds like a lot of talking to people
ceo: that’s right
coder: but that means i can’t code in flow state while rocking out to daft punk’s alive 2007
ceo: that’s right
coder: how do i even find people to talk to about automating stuff
ceo: have you heard of linkedin
coder: pls no
