Day 373: One Year Predictions

One year ago, I was living in a community house with 40+ people. Two friends and I wrote down predictions for where we’d be and what we’d be doing a year from now, and agreed to video chat in a year.

Today, we congregated in a Zoom and checked our notes.

Here were my predictions about what my life would look like today:

  • Location: Busan
  • Work: Working on the mobile version of Intention
  • Money: $3000+ in monthly recurring revenue
  • Relationship: Not dating anyone
  • Hobbies: Occasionally busking and singing

What my life actually looks like today:

  • Location: Taipei
  • Work: Working on Browserflow
  • Money: $125 in MRR
  • Relationship: Dating someone
  • Hobbies: Not busking. Not singing much in general 😢

Basically, I was dead wrong on all my predictions. It was true for my friends as well. One of them thought he’d be living in SF and working at the startup he’d just joined, but in reality, he had left that job two months ago, had moved to his parents’ place in Florida, and is now planning to do a 2-month personal retreat at a cottage in South Carolina. The other friend correctly predicted that she’d be in Seoul, but she’s currently doing sales at a pharmaceutical company rather than working at a police department.

Of course, none of us had anticipated the pandemic changing everything in 2020, but even without that, so many things in my life are in flux that it feels nearly impossible to accurately predict what things will be like in a year from now. Still, it’s fun so I’ll give it a shot for January 2022:

  • Location: Seoul / somewhere in Asia
  • Work: Working on Browserflow
  • Money: $3000+ in MRR
  • Relationship: Dating someone
  • Hobbies: BJJ, can do a 30 second handstand
