Day 344: brain dump
had this journal entry open for the last few hours, wondering what to write in it, and realized that i’m starting to set some kind of standard again for what kind of content is “worth” writing about
but nope, i want to make sure this is a pure, drivel-laden form of self-expression where i’m just writing what’s on my mind so i’m doing a brain dump to counteract the desire to write for others (people who read) rather than writing for myself
random thoughts:
-
i’m socializing way too much. spending all day hanging out and barely getting any work done. the nearby coworking space is full this month so i’ve been working in the hostel until i can join next month, but clearly that’s not working because i get distracted all the time so i need to find coffee shops to work from. strangely, the starbucks shops i’ve been to here have terrible wifi so gotta find an indie shop for an indie boi

i hosted a lil workshop for five friends at the hostel today where we worked through alex vermeer’s 8760 hours process where you reflect on the past year and think about how you want to direct your energy in the upcoming year
- we spent about an hour and half just doing the life snapshot part and after taking a break to go out and grab food, we went through the categories and shared what came up for us
- it was neat hearing people describe their values and life philosophies because that’s not something we normally talk about explicitly
- there were times when someone went on for too long, and as the facilitator, i wanted to keep the session going so that people wouldn’t just zone out and that we’d finish in a reasonable amount of time. but i have a really hard time interjecting because cutting people off feels uncomfortable. there’s definitely an art to skillfully stopping someone without embarrassing them or making them feel bad, and it’s something i want to learn. because i was hesitant to take control, the conversations sometimes went off track with most people losing interest during some parts — as a result, the sessions felt like it dragged on for way too long

on sunday, we’re going to do the second part of 8760 hours where we think about how we want to direct our energy in the upcoming year. excited to spend some time thinking about that
