Day 227: Skyhouse

You make plans, and then life happens.

Yesterday was a repeat of Day 69, where one unexpected thing leads to another and suddenly I’m saying goodbye and embarking on a 6 hour journey.

A little over a week ago, I told my housemates about a decision I had made earlier that day: In several weeks, I would go down to LA to spend some time with my parents and my grandpa. My grandpa is turning 88 in a month, and given that he won’t be around forever, I wanted to at least spend some time at home with the man who raised me before setting off again to god-knows-where. I likely wouldn’t see my housemates again until 2021.

The evacuation yesterday eviscerated the remaining time I thought I had. The fire led my house to temporarily disband, and that was reason enough for me to make the trip down to LA with a friend.

Now I’m typing this back at my childhood home, feeling nostalgic for a time that was my life up until 24 hours ago. I miss my housemates, and I’m sure my appreciation for them and the lil family we created at Skyhouse will grow even more as many things are only fully appreciated once they’re gone.

Stedman, Suz, Zain, Serena, Cathy, Josh, Jules, Evan — thanks for the wonderful times. Miss you all dearly.
