Day 186: Looking Busy

A conversation that I had this morning:

• Friend: Yup, I usually get up around 6am for work.
• Me: Woah, that’s super early.
• Friend: It’s not too bad. I usually clock in and then go back to sleep until like 9.
• Me: Wait, what do you mean you “clock in”?
• Friend: I sign into this thing and then I turn on my mouse bot.
• Me: …You turn on what?
• Friend: A mouse bot. So that I don’t go inactive on Skype.

Basically, a ton of people at my friend’s company use mouse bots so that their status always appears as active when anyone looks at their status on Skype. One time, my friend’s manager forgot to disconnect after using screen control software to show my friend something. When my friend’s mouse started going crazy and repetitively moving and clicking, he realized that his manager used a mouse bot as well.

Ah, yes. The bright future of corporate environments going remote.
